Greetings everybody. This edition of the newsletter will be shorter in length than the things I’ve published so far, but hopefully just as fruitful.
Now that there are more people receiving this newsletter, I want to do my first AMA (Ask Me Anything). How does an AMA work? In the comment section, please ask me any sewing machine related question you have. In a follow up newsletter 1-2 weeks from now, which I will title AMA #1, I will answer as many of your questions as I can.
I am honored to say that although The Sewing Machine Newsletter is only 1 month old, we already have nearly 700 subscribers from 46 states and 26 countries. That being the case, I probably won’t be able to answer every single question that gets asked. Questions that get repeated by multiple people will likely take priority, and questions from paid subscribers will also get priority. If your question does not get answered in AMA #1, it’s not that I don’t think it is important. With the recent growth of the newsletter, I am hoping this exercise gives me a better idea of my audience and will help me gauge what you all want to know. I want to give your more of what you want, and I suspect some of your questions will inspire more in-depth articles in the future.
There is no such thing as a stupid question. If there is something you want to know, then there is a good chance that somebody else has the same question as you.
Depending on the volume of questions and the content of the question, I may even do an audio podcast so that I can cover more ground. We shall see.
Leave Your Questions in the Comments.
Another thing I want to bring to your attention…
One reason why I chose to send my newsletter through Substack is because of the “Notes” feature that is offered. I have been keeping a fairly robust list of notes since I first started the newsletter 1 month ago, but it has come to my attention that many people aren’t aware it exists and don’t know where to find it.
If you go to The Sewing Machine Newsletter’s page online on Substack’s website, you will see 4 words on the top of the page that says “Home - Notes - Archive - About”.
In the photograph below, I have circled these 4 words in purple.
If “Home” is selected, you will be on a page that shows the most recent articles published. “Archive” will take you to the full archive of all the articles we’ve ever published. “About” will take you to the page that explains what this newsletter is about. The “Notes” section is what I want to focus on today.
If you click on the word “Notes”, you will go to a page where I leave notes of the daily happenings that occur at the shop where I work. The notes consist of things I see that don’t necessarily warrant an entire newsletter dedicated to the subject, but I have a feeling sewing machine enthusiasts might find them interesting and will be able to glean some knowledge from them.
Here are some examples of these notes:
You can see the full list of Notes if you click HERE , but you can also check in on your own if you have some free time and are curious about the little things that go on in the daily life of a sewing machine technician.
If you wish to participate in our first AMA (Ask Me Anything), please leave your question in the comment section!
Thank you,
-Cale
What are the pros and cons of the two types of bobbin placement - horizontal and vertical? The drop in type looks easier to use. My Bernina‘s are vertical and so I wonder if this produces a more quality stitch.
Oh hi! It’s me. I’m the problem! I’m the lucky gal who over-tightened the needle screw. Thank you for working your magic to fix!!
