As I see your articles come into my inbox, I look forward to reading them. Not only do I find the subject matter interesting, but I also love seeing you evolve as a writer. Keep at it, on both fronts.
I just discovered your post at random and it reminded me of an Eames lecture! Charles Eames talks about the intrinsic goodness of a bolt of fabric, and other items similar to it. It might interest you? https://youtu.be/z-GxCwtAtFk?si=McWPN5uk3H1x3lKg
This makes complete sense to me but I only have ever had one (large) spool cap for my machines. I've been very lucky to not have encountered an issue, but it has always bothered me. Three different machines over the course of 40 years of sewing. Now I'm looking for an assortment of sizes for the various spools I routinely use.
I enjoy reading your posts. I've learned quite a bit about the inner workings of my sewing machines. I'll still never open them up to peer in the guts beyond regular cleaning and lubrication, but I feel more confident knowing they work as intended.
I had no idea that there were such things as spool caps! They make absolute sense, though, and I am going to see if I can buy some (I hate it when the spool rattles around!)
