Where is the take-up lever?

I don't remember what the take-up lever is because I'm forgetful. What the heck is the take-up lever?

Thank you for this!! Literally saved the day yesterday. My industrial TechSew 810 leaving huge loops on the back of the leather I was sewing even when I loosened the bobbin tension and had the needle tension as tight as it would go. I loosened the upper tension all the way, raised the presser foot, and "flossed" in between the tension discs with a clean scrap of cotton muslin. I didn't see anything come out, but something must have, because it totally fixed the problem!

Excellent explanation and visual demonstration, thanks for sharing your experience and educating me. Living in a small town with no sewing machine repairs shop, and only one large fabric shop (like a Joanne’s) with few experienced seamstresses to advise when we have a problem; your information is so valuable and welcome. Thanks again 😊

Super helpful info… intuitively I knew that raising the foot changed things… now I know what and why it is important! Thanks

Great info. I knew what to do but did not know why. What a great demo.

My Bernina 830 has auto threading and I can’t make the foot go up when it threads my machine. Why don’t I have looping? It has a perfect stitch and it always threads with the foot down.

Wow, it is really in the details. Thank you.

Some people say never use canned air. You suggest using it. My Bernina 1130 does not come apart above the needle. Sometimes the thread to the needle has lint on it but there’s no way to clean it. Should I blow canned air in there?

I appreciate your advice very much. Thank you kindly.

I have taught a lot of people to sew- ( Canvas Shop) and after you show them this they are Utterly Amazed! On the big machines you also have to hold both threads until the first stitch is formed.
