I loved reading the story about your dad - he sounds like a gentle and wise man. Thank you for an insight into the workings (or not) of our beloved sewing machines. Iām a vintage machine lover and, among others, I have a Bernina Record 730 that I wish I could get you to look at. Alas, its a long way from Australia! š
The take up lever broke off. You have a long road ahead. Is replacement still available or do you have a stash or part from carcass? This is the reason Bernina now has a metal protective cover in front of takeup lever.
I have a Janome DC3050. Itās a workhorse and I love it, but it squeaks. Is it ok for me to take off the cover and oil the needle movement? It was tuned up a year or so ago and is otherwise working beautifully.
Hi Charla, it is okay for you to do so as long as you are able to get everything back together properly. On that particular machine, I would first oil the motor belt pulley wheel, as those tend to be the part that squeaks after lots of use. That is located on the right sight of the machine, below the handwheel.

Good eye, Jacque. Fortunately we have a carcass.
What do charge for fixing that ?
You are a talented writer.. however, I hope your dad is successful in his efforts to keep you at the shop!
