Also read your manual carefully, and follow the manufacturer's instructions precisely for using the needle threader. If you don't put the thread exactly where the manufacturer advises to place it, the needle threader won't work. The "I don't learn by reading, but by doing" philosophy quickly becomes costly when dealing with needle threaders.
Wow, I had zero idea of the various errors one could make to render the needle threader useless. Positive I have damaged many a threader due to user error. Thank you for your informative writings.
I murdered the automatic threader in a fancy new to me machine. It had bells and whistles galore. New parts didn't exist. The machine was 12 years old. I went back to vintage machines. I have a 100 year old Singer treadle, hauled from the side of the road, that runs better than the fancy machine ever did. Sigh.
Again, a nice detailed explanation. We use the needle threader quickly and often without giving it any thought. Understanding how it works should help me use it correctly and make it last longer. I will say, I have a Juki Kieri HZL NX7, and from what I see on Facebook the needle threaders on this machine seem to break a lot.

Never thought about the lateral force one might be accidentally putting on the lever. SO helpful. Thanks
