You missed the best line of thread . Wonderfil out of Calgary Canada with over 30 different collections

I can't get anything like range of colours that Guterman have in any other brand, and it's the only one I can buy in person - I can get a few brands online, but then the colour choices are hit and miss.

So you don’t like Superior threads?

Ditto for me - please, please calm our fears! Why haven't you mentioned Gutterman? Thanks for your reply.

Thank you for another important article. When I first started sewing ( decades ago) it was not made clear that thread quality was of importance. Inexpensive fabric and inexpensive thread were what was used. Needless to say, the results were “homemade “. Being quite young I didn’t think about it.

However, with age came the wisdom of having the best you can afford to produce more quality results.

Don’t throw that old wooden spool of thread—it’s a collectible…you can use it for crafts, or maybe even use the thread for handsewing, junk journal making, or something that doesn’t require strength. Just saying…

I love Superior thread but did not have good luck with Aurifil. I bought one spool at a quilt show and wound a bobbin then threaded the machine with the same spool. It kept breaking after a few stitches. I rethreaded my machine, changed the needle but did not play with the tention because the few stitches that I managed to sew before the thread broke looked great. I tried it with a different bobbin thread and the Aurifil thread still broke. I took the spool off the machine and gave it a little tug between my hands and it broke with almost no pulling. I have used Gutterman, Mettler, even Coats and Clark along with Superior and had not had the trouble that I had with Aurifil. It was just one spool but I have not wanted to pay for another spool. I know two longarm quilters who refuse to use any cotton thread on their longarms; they stick to Superior polyester.

I used to mostly buy Guterman, but after reading a previous post where you mentioned thread, I have started buying Aurifil and it is just awesome. It’s expensive, but I do alterations and have purchased some of the most basic colors (white, black, grey, etc), and I have been noticing the difference. It sews so much better and the stitch quality is nicer. Now whenever I need to buy a new color, I buy Aurifil. Thank you!
