I own a store that sells Baby Lock sergers and I still learned so much from your article ~ so much about sergers, about Baby Lock and about The Beatles. Thank you for writing such an enjoyable read. I’ll be sharing with my staff and customers.
I enjoyed learning the origin of the name "Baby Lock" - I always wondered about it. I bought my wonderful Baby Lock Aria at a Sewing Expo about twelve years ago. I have never felt a need or desire for a serger - chacun a son gout!
This was so fun to read and informative!!! I could totally relate to threading nightmares. When I first got my serger, I was amazed by all the the things it could do, but threading it made me crazy so I happily gave it away a few years later. As I've gained more sewing experience, I've thought about getting a new one, but the threading always holds me back. After reading about the babylock, I may reconsider! Thanks for the fun read!!! I always enjoy your articles - very informative!
I really enjoyed your Socratic-like SewingMachineMan Dialogue on the old-style sergers (been there) and the amazing BabyLock sergers (have gone there). Thanks
I have a Victory Babylock and it is everything you say. I bought it on the recommendation of a woman who had a sewing shop and also taught sewing classes. It was my first overlocker and I have not had a minutes worth of trouble with it. It just sews whatever I ask it to and is a perfect match for my Bernina 1008 which is also a totally reliable workhorse.
Hi Liz, I know older Bernina serger from 10-20 years ago were made by Juki (e.g. Bernina 2000 DL serger). I do not believe that is the case anymore, although I am not 100% certain because our shop does not carry Bernina sergers.

In Australia sergers are called overlockers. I was told that Bernina/Bernette overlockers were rebranded Juki machines. Is that correct?
