I have always been told not to use canned air because it will blow the lint and dirt back farther into the machine and cause more problems. Is this not true?
The first picture shows a foam disk. I rarely use one, but thought that the foam side would face the spool. I think of it as something for use on the vertical spool pin. Am I wrong?
Useful article, thanks! I can't remember if you have written about stack-wound vs cross-wound thread. I would be interested in what you have to say about the various adapters for vintage machines (with vertical spool pins) that allow you to use cross-wound thread without Bad Things happening.

Very interesting indeed! Both my sewing machines only have one spool cap. I am going to see if they can be bought separately.
Interesting! My vintage 1989 Elnita did not come w/a spool cap. Perhaps that’s an accessory for higher-end machines?
